expired license plate

What is the name of your state? New Jersey

I was returning from the DMV office after getting my vehicle registered and with new license plates. I was given a ticket for driving with expired license plate. I explained that I have the new license plate and showed it him. He said that it should be displayed on the dash board as per the law. Is there any law which states this? Please advice.

Thanks

Officer is making stuff up, but the violation is still valid.

You can't drive with expired tags.

The law does not have a driving to and from the DMV exception either.

In the future, take a cab, have a friend drive you, or put the new ones on straight away.

Sure, prove that you were properly displaying unexpired plates.
