Failure to appear...consequences?

What is the name of your state? NC

Got a recless driving ticket while someone was chasing me after I pulled out in front of them. Anyway, I'm moving across country before my court date, should I even bother paying a lawyer, or will I be ok if I never come back to NC?

Second, if I fight it and win, can I get the court costs remimbursed to me, or can I counter sue the person who was chasing me and make him pay the court fees?

Thanks,

Dave

You or your lawyer need to appear, if you don't, you get a warrant.

In fact, you are so astonishingly correct in this matter, it will not surprise us one bit if you are offered a generous settlement, because, by golly, that’s just how it should be.

If you fail to appear, there will be a warrant for your arrest and you will lose your driving privileges in the United States.

Don't be a dummy, and stop thinking that you can cheat the system. Nobody forced you into the chase, you had a choice to drive at speed limit, so don't make any excuses either.

Just go to court, pay the fine (ask for reduction during trial), take responsibility and bear consequences. It's as simple as that. With all luck, you are going to get a simple speeding charge, which would not affect your driver's record as much as reckless does.

Move to PA or any other state that does not care about out-of-state tickets.
