Failure to maintain lane

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? I am in NJ. I just received a ticket for Failure to Maintain Lane 39:4-88. I had just pulled out of a shopping center into the right lane and the road was very heavy in traffic. I was approaching an exit only lane and I signaled to move into the left lane next to me. There was a big truck who let me in just as I entered into the exit only lane. A police man pulled me over for failure to maintain lane. Said I should have gotten off the exit. This was very dangerous and no one was letting me into the proper lane. Any chance I can beat the ticket?

At the point where you changed lanes, had you already passed the point where the dotted white lines had turned into a solid white line?
