fighting a NYS speeding ticket remotely from Ontario, Canada

Howdy all:

I received a speeding ticket in upstate NY for going 21 MPH over in a 65MPH zone (Interstate 81) on my way back to Ontario, Canada. I've done some preliminary research into reciprocity between the two jurisdictions, but I'm a tad confused as to my best options.

It appears that my home province has a traffic statute covering reciprocal enforcement of penalties for CERTAIN offences in NY State and Michigan (IE: DUI), and I've been told that demerit points accumulated through the NY courts (or a judgement entered in default) can impact your license renewal in Ontario.

Although I'm convinced that a law of some kind is in place to ensure that Ontario drivers are held accountable for NY State driving offences, is it actually going to come back to haunt me in my home province the next time I attempt to renew my license, or cross the border? Moreover, does the process of dealing with the matter require a court appearance to challenge the particulars of the offence? The ticket itself simply demands that I mail it back to New York by the end of the month, at which point I'm left to assume that I will receive more correspondence?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Speeding Ticket in NY State, from Ontario

Wondering what was the outcome of our speeding violation. My son just received a ticket yesterday as he was driving us on our way home from Florida. (87 in a 65). What happened with your ticket once it was mailed in? Did you receive demerit points?
Thanks for any help.
