I received my first moving violation last week in Oregon; Jackson County. It was "Failure to obey a traffic control device." I was driving thru a yellow light; it turned yellow just as I had approached the intersection. I am a truck driver, I was under a heavy load, my only other option was to slam on my brakes; thus resulting in the load shifting and I probably would have come to a stop in the intersection. My approximate speed at the time going thru the light was about 20-25mph. When I stopped for the officer, he said I should have stopped because the oncoming traffic waiting to turn left in front of me might have jumped in front of me; sure they "Could have", but my entire day is filled with "Could Have situations" and it's up to me to make quick decisions. I've been safely driving commercial vehicles for nearly 11 years; can anyone help me out with this? I plan to go to court and discuss this with the judge because I really don't think I earned this ticket. If I really thought I earned this, I wouldn't bother going to court and just pay the fine. But shouldn't my clean record show that I am a safe defensive driver? Do you think I have a chance in court with this? or am I wasting my time?
