first speeding ticket - i want to keep it off my insuranceWhat is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? South Carolina I was clocked 57 in a 35, which carries a $180 max fine and 4 points on the license. I want to do as much as possible to keep it off the insurance. I spoke with a lawyer and he knew exactly what to do, but his fee is $600. That's a little much. He did give me some helpfuly advice. He said I could contact the officer before the arraignment and maybe work out a deal. I hope this works. I did notice that my arraignment was 51 days after the incident occurred, but I don't believe there is a set time limit for speedy trials in South Carolina. Also, it may not apply to arraignments. Is there some place on the web where I could pay a lawyer and he could tell me what to do or what to try and maybe it'll be less than just hiring a lawyer? |

| I would find out if your state has a deferral system. I recieved a moving violation in Indiana and asked the judge for a deferral. I had to pay the fine plus the cost of the deferral (I think it was 80.00 for deferral) and pay for a defensive driving class.(one day class) I then didnt get any points and it wasnt turned into insurance. BUT...I could not get another ticket anytime in the next six months. If I recieved another ticket in that time I had to pay that ticket plus pay the deferral ticket again, and get points.I was told I wouldnt be able to get another deferral again .They only give it to you one time. Most of the people in my county didnt know there was such a thing. It makes for an expensive ticket but it beats paying higher insurance for the next 2 yrs. Call the court where you are to appear and ask if they have a system like that.Good luck |
