first ticket- please help

I'm a Californian driver, and i got an out of state speeding ticket in South Dakota (85mph in 75mph zone). This is my first ticket ever in my 9 years of driving experience and I'm confused about what I'm supposed to do to clear it (if possible). I'm OK with paying the fine, just looking for a way to get the ticket off the record. Can I take traffic school for a South Dakota ticket? Any ideas? Thanks so much!

South Dakota Speeding Ticket

Call the clerk of court and see if the ticket will be reported to California. South Dakota at one time did not enter speeding tickets of up to 10mph over the limit. I do not know their current policy or how it might effect the reporting to another state.

If it will not be reported just send in your money. If it will be reported ask if they will allow you to take a California Traffic School and not report the ticket. The answer will probably be no so fall back on just sending in the money. Be sure to do it by money order and keep the receipt.

It is unlikely that your insurance company will check your MVR anytime soon unless you change companies. In three years it will go off your record.

Also, if they would report it to CA, ask them if they'll let you take online traffic school through SD.

I did this for an Ohio ticket once as I am an IL driver, and they said they wouldn't report it as long as I completed the online traffic school.

Good luck.
