FL-- HTO Offender help

What is the name of your state? Florida

Hi all, from FL. Hope someone can give me a little help here, I don't know what to do.
Well, my fiancee got his license suspended 5 years ago for not paying a ticket. Well he got pulled over driving and got a DWLS. He reinstated his license. He was going through money problems again 2 years ago and let his car insurance lapse, so his license was suspended once again. I guess he didnt know he had to carry insurance on his truck (it was broken down and in his garage). Well his license got suspended again. He never received a notice of this and didnt know until he got pulled over again (not in the uninsured vehicle, however), resulting in another DWLS. He again got his license reinstated. Got insurance on the car, paid fines, etc. Insurance was getting to expensive, especially for a car that wasnt being driven, so after a month or two, he turned in his registration and tag to the tag office. This was about a year ago. Well, we got pulled over in February and the police officer informed him that his license had been suspended for almost a year. Never received a notification again!! No big deal, he gave him the ticket, I drove home.
So now we finally have an extra 500 dollars to reinstate his license, so we go to the DMV and they said that he can not get a license for 5 years becuase of his 3 DWLS (which makes him a habtual traffic offender) and that we can get a hardship after a year. They said we also should have gotten a letter about this. I don't know we must have a mailbox bandit that comes and only takes letters from the DMV?!?!?
I'm not saying that he is completely innocent in this situation, I know he is required to carry car insurance on his vehicle and he should have been a little more responsible, but we never got any letters about this! Don't they have to notify you when they suspend/revoke your license?
Well to my main questions... Can lawyers get a person out of a situation such as this? Is there a way to get the revocation overturned? Do judges ever grant a hardship early? Is it worth the time and money to get a lawyer? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Lindsay

I predict the asnwers to your question will be:
"you have to have insurance AND licence to drive a car."

You should contact the DMV and figure out what address they have on file for you. It is up to you to ensure they have the most current mailing address on file.

That was my first thought, that the address they have isn't the current one. Hmmmmmmmm. Insurance is SUPER expensive in FL, and then to add an SR22, and then to add several DWLS to the mix, he'll be in trouble for a long time. I'm going to guess that he must still maintain proof of insurance, even with not vehicle. That has been my experience, at least, in FL. I don't think, at this point, that an attorney can do anything. Its too late. Sorry.
