Question

I recently got a ticket for driving under suspension but did not know my license had been revoked. A month or so ago I was ticketed for speeding and no insurance. I paid the tickets and got insurance. The department of public safety has never sent any correspondance notifying me and when i bought insurance nothing came up that my license was suspended.I am now out $100 for impound $ for reinstatement and $ for the tickets. Does anyone know if anything can be done about this since I was never contacted?

What is the address on your license? Is it the same as where you are now living?

They should have sent it to your address listed on the license, certified mail return reciept. Someone would have to sign for it.

IF not then you have a case.

You should have requested a Post Storage Hearing (This information was on the paperwork that the officer gave you when he impounded your car). If you hadn't been served a suspension notice or there was no evidence that you were served by the DMV than the police agency would have reimbursed/paid for your car impoundment fees. This happened to me.

My car was impounded for driving on a suspended license. The DMV had mailed me a notice but there was no proof that I had received the notice. I was reimbursed for the cost of the impoundment and the officers who impounded my vehicle were told that they had improperly impounded my vehicle because they did not establish any evidence concerning my knowledge of the suspension.
