Help Wreckless driving advice need - Cal.

California

Wife has a court date next week and I need help... I am not familiar with Ca. courts, but in Bakersfield, she was cited for Wreck less driving for speeding, following too closely, and unsafe lane changes. Any advice on how to approach this? Attorneys want $750 with no guarantee that they can get it reduced. Anyway, the CHP was heading east, we were going west each, he passed us, I saw him hit his brakes, and told my wife to exit the freeway. She changed lanes from 3 to 2 to 1 then exited. He reached us at the bottom of the off ramp and lighted us. He was angry because we tried to lose him, but he didn’t write that up. She was doing 85 in a 65 and this is her first offense. Should we plead guilty and pay the fine or fight it and try to get it reduced? this is her first offense... We are trying to figure out if she should plead guilty and take the fine and hope the judge is easy going, and ask for traffic schools or plead not guilty and hope they want to bargain. Any advice? Any idea on cost/penalties? Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks -Nick

"Should we plead guilty and pay the fine or fight it and try to get it reduced?"
*** Gee, lets see:
1) She was charged with speeding.
Your post says, "She was doing 85 in a 65". Sounds guilty to me.

2) She was charged with "illegal lane changes".
Your post says, "She changed lanes from 3 to 2 to 1 then exited."
Sounds guilty to me.

3) She was charged with "following too closely".
Probably happened while she was whipping across the lanes trying to flee and evade, huh??

and finally, "He was angry because we tried to lose him, but he didn’t write that up."

"Any advice"
*** Yep. Tell he to be an adult and learn to accept the consequences of her actions. Plead guilty and pay the fines and penalties. If she doesn't, she is just liable to piss the judge off and get it worse!!

Actually, when changing lanes she signaled, went from the fast lane to center, signaled went from middle to right lane... That in no way was illegal, but its our word versus the officer...
