How much is fine or will my registration get suspended?

I got a NJ ticket for suspended registration 39:3.4 and No insurance 39:6B2. I have insurance since 1st March 11. Its not expired. Office still said its not valid and gave a ticket and asked to come to court. I checked with DMV. They said registration was suspended in July 2011 since I had no insurance from 2/23 to 2/28. But I had showed them current insurance in May 2011 at time of registration renewal. DMV gave me a letter saying registration is reinstated as I have insurance. The letter also says I am responsible for all fines during suspension period. How to defend this? I have proof of coverage since 3/1.

I don't underestand how the suspension was valid. They suspended registration in July. But I had showed them insurance in May at registration renewal.

Did you have insurance the week in February in question or not?
If you didn't the fact that you got it again in March means nothing.

I did not have insurance for 1 week in Feb.
But no insurance ticket was given when I had insurance......that ticket should not be valid.
Also why would DMV suspend registration in July after I had shown proof of insurance in May.
