What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California
My boyfriend just got a ticket for driving without a license. His license had been suspended for about two months now due to back child support. We want to get everything cleared up but is there a way to reduce a misdemeanor to an infraction? Thanks for the help.

Most counties do not have a city attorney or prosecutor involved in the traffic process, so there may be no one to agree to any kind of a plea deal for a reduced offense. He can always call the prosecutor's office and ask.

Besides, what's the incentive for the state to agree to such a deal? He was driving on a suspended license and caught. He will now face additional penalties. And if he did not already discover it, he should know that driving a vehicle with a suspended license can result in a 30 day impound of the vehicle and all the associated costs with its release a month later (usually between $2,500 and $3,000 or so - depending on the part of the state he is caught in.
