What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? minnesota is it a legal stop for no plates and you have a permit in the back window?

Were you given a citation as a result of the stop? If so, what for? (please provide the code for which you were cited).

If you were not given any sort of citation, then what is it, exactly, that you are hoping to achieve?

It's supposed to be in the inside left rear window, but I suspect that it's impossible for the police to actually see it let alone read it, the stop may be considered reasonable.

Police can stop anybody, just about

The law makes it easy for them to articulate a case for any stop.

Not having a license plate, but only a paper tag...

That is not hard to see how that stop is legit.

Did you get a ticket?

The law does not make it "easy", it requires probable cause or reasonable suspicion depending on the type of stop.

It's the stopped individuals who make it easy by committing infractions/violations.

Remember, no matter how minor the violation, it does provide probable cause for a vehicle stop. The US Supreme Court has ruled that pretextual stops are valid as long as there is probable cause.

While it doesn't apply in this case, the California Supremes have declared that the presence of a temporary permit in the window is NOT justification to make a stop. The cops have to make up some other pretext.

This is incorrect.

Cops DO NOT need probable cause to make a traffic stop. If police have probable cause, they can effect an arrest, right then and there...

They only need an articulatable basis that rises to the level of reasonable suspicion to pull someone over.

Which is a crock of a decision because these things are mobile and thus make very handy auto theft tools ... we had these used for just such a purpose with some frequency in southern California. Of course, if no such temporary permit is observed or cannot be clearly seen, then the stop for an unlicensed or unregistered vehicle is good.

Of course, none of this related to the law in MN.
