Question

HELP! Incompetent Police!!!

I was recently given a speeding ticket. I was reviewing the ticket that I got on 11/7/2001 and the date I have to show up in court is '7/14/2001'. Which is in July. BUT IT IS NOVEMBER!!! Am I going to get out of my ticket because of this? What should I do about this? Please help!!!
Also, it says right under my court date that I was 'personally delivered' this ticket on 7/7/2001...the date that I recieved this ticket was definatly 11/7/2001. Please respond. Thanks.

Hmmm, maybe you can look at the ticket and call the number or office listed and ask them.

Asking the court for advice about your ticket is something akin to asking a mugger how you should deal with his robbing you.

I'd talk to a lawyer if none of the ones here deign to assist you.

Many will offer a free consultation. You might hit the Attorney Pages link to the right and see if you can get some help there.

Something else to check is the State Law Center link. From there go to Ohio's laws then start searching for the procedure for issuing a traffic ticket. If you can prove that the officer violated procedure, I would think you could argue that the ticket was improperly issued and therefore invalid. Since you don't have a court date, you could talk to the city attorney, DA, whatever. Make sure you're right before you do, however.

Another thought. (Idle curiosity. PLEASE don't act on this.) The court date has come and gone months ago. I would think either a warrant has already been issued, or never will unless somebody catches the mistake. You don't have a good friend on the force do you?
