Incorrect MPH on ticket

What is the name of your state? Illinois

I received a ticket for going 55 MPH on a 40 MPH road. The officer listed 30 MPH instead of 40 MPH. Is it possible to contest this error and have the ticket dropped? Thanks in advance for any advice.

No, but you should bring a photo of the sign when you contest the ticket. If the officer doesn't show up, you win. If the officer shows up, you can argue that if he copied the speed limit down wrong, maybe he also copied the radar gun reading incorrectly.

Thanks abezon. However, I do want to point out that the officer also notated that I went 15 MPH over the speed limit under the "Nature of Offense" heading. Would this be in the officer's favor in court? Or do I still have a chance to contest the fact that his statements on the ticket conlict each other?

I swear I was going 50 MPH on the road. Of course, it's my word against the officer.
