insurance increase?

What is the name of your state? Texas

I just got a speeding ticket for 74 in a 55 today. I know I was wrong, stupid mistake (I'll probably just pay the fine). My question is, about how much is this going to hurt my insurance? I'm 18, previously clean record. I know you can take a driver safety course in Harris County to remove the charge from your record, but I can't find anything on Fort Bend County. Also, I'm going away to college in a month, so I'm afraid I wouldn't have enough time to complete the course. Oh, and a little curiosity note: the violation is listed as "Speeding (MR)". Anyone know what the MR stands for?

Josh

Generally speaking, a ticket within the first 18 months of your license is not going to be a good thing for future rates. However, no one can say for certain as every carrier is different. I suggest you call your agent and pose the question to him, as well as whether your insurance company will recognize the defensive driving class in terms of lowering your rates (i.e. here in NY, I get a 15% discount for taking the class, even with no points on my license).
