Question

international driver's license

What is the name of your state? Colorado

several years ago i lost my license for failing to pay a fine and was pulled over and received a ticket for not having a valid license. as a consequence, i lost my license for three years.
i then heard about this international driver's license that is supposed to be valid in any nato country, "even if your current license is suspended or revoked."
i have driven on this for three years, waiting to obtain my regular license, but i recently got pulled over and was told that this is not a valid license if i am a US citizen.
the web sites all claim that these are 100% valid despite my nationality and prior license history.
what is the bottom line on these things? where can i find info that might benefit me in court?
the site was www.drivelegal.com
if these are bogus, can i use the site's claims as a defense?
is there any recourse against the site if i am convicted?

you have no recourse against the website that sold you the license. you are supposed to know your own state's driving laws and not rely on website based in a whorehouse in Belgium.

But rest assured, next time you go to Europe you already have a license!

**A: you have not checked everywhere. Did you check under your bed, in the trunk of your car or under your kitchen sink?
Did you check with the local police?

**A: I have the Colorado statutes pertaining to driver's licensing, but since you don't have time to waste, why should I waste my time posting it.
How's that for being a comedian?

**A: Listen hagnocure, both contributors are attorney's that gave you legal advice and that are legally allowed to drive anywhere in the US.

Hag: Your 'international license' it is NOT a license to drive. It is only an 'international' translation of your own drivers license..... so that other countries can understand it and in a standardized form.

A true International 'license' is printed in 8 languages: the five United Nations official languages (English, French, Spanish, Russian and Chinese) as well as German and Arabic.

If stopped in a foreign country, you are required to show BOTH, the international AND your home country license.

Simply, you have been scammed.

Here are some sites detailing this scam.....
http://www.drunkdrivingdefense.com/national/international-drivers-license.htm
http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/scams/license.htm
http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/features/05062002_SR_driverslicense.html
http://www.consumer.state.ny.us/PressReleases/2002/July152002.htm
http://www.oag.state.tx.us/newspubs/releases/2002/20020725license.htm
http://www.cfro.org/Volunteers/SCAMBUSTER%20June%202002.pdf

And finally, here is a review of the site you purchased your 'license' from (drivelegal.com). It pretty well says it all:
"This site offers an international drivers license they want you to think is issued from the Bahamas. If it were authentic looking it still would not be accepted any where in the world without a real license to accompany it. I have heard from one poor soul who ordered and from the scan he sent me it comes down to this site using a home printer producing a useless paper and slapping your picture on it."

There are at least 17 lawsuits (!!) pending in various courts, including the US Supreme Court, asking if Obama is a natural born citizen (as req'd by Art II, Sec 1 of the US Constitution).

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport!
