Mailed in ticket/plea to NYS court CRRR, was not signed for or picked up What is the name of your state? New York
I mailed my ticket with my not guilty plea last week to the town court specified by the officer's writing. I used certified mail with return receipt (as the back of the ticket actually recommends). According to the online status, delivery was attempted Thursday morning, but no one was available to sign, so it went back to the post office. It stated that a notice was left and the recipient can pick it up at the PO. If it is left unclaimed, it will be returned to me (unknown when).
So it looks like they have already had Thursday and Friday to pick it up, and haven't. I would say there is a good chance it will be sent back to me. What should I do in that case? The original court appearance date is this Wednesday, which I cannot make. I was under the impression that sending in the ticket with "not guilty" within 48 hours (which I did) would void that court date, and a new one would be set. If the court doesn't receive anything from me by that date though, I'm a bit wary of the consequences.
This is also the same court that I cannot reach by telephone (see my other post), so my options are limited. Any ideas?
Thanks. |
