court date - to plead or not to plead

Forgot to ask in my last post...
Guilty of commiting traffic offense. Will pay ticket but really don't want the points on my license - 3 points I think. I haven't had a ticket in over 6 years. I've been told (once again) to go to my court date on the ticket and plead not guilty in order to ask the judge about dismissing the points. I don't really feel comfortable saying not guilty when I am though. Is this the only way? I was informed that driving school will knock off 2 points but it's not recommended for people with so few points anyway.
