| I accidently scraped a vehicle in a parking lot. It was raining and I had my baby with me. I left a note on vehicle with my name and number and left. Owner of vehicle contacted me that day and I suggested that she get an estimate of damage. The estimate she got was for $500.00, which I felt was very over-inflated. This was really very minor damage, no dents, just a scrape from my licenses plate. I asked her if she would get another estimate, and she refused. Realizing this may get difficult and expensive, I suggested that we contact our insurance companies. She advised me that if I did that, she would have me cited for leaving the scene of an accident. I then suggested that my husband would go with her the get an estimate - she refused and said she is going to the police. What are the repercussions of this? Was leaving a note on vehicle not appropriate? This was really very minor damage that I thought I could pay for. Please advise. |

Just received a summons to appear in court - am being charged with leaving the scene of an accident by this individual. Can I be charged with leaving the scene even when I put a note on the car? Any suggestions on how to handle this? Thank you. |
