Minor Needs Advice About Two Major Virginia Traffic Violations

The other day I had a case of bad luck and got pulled over while driving on a suspended license in Virginia. I was charged with driving on a supended license with notice and reckless driving. I am a minor and I was wondering whether or not it would be wise to get a lawyer to try and reduce the charges in court. The officer said there was a good chance I could get the reckless reduced to improper driving. Can I persuade the court on my own or would it be worth it to get a lawyer concerning the circumstances?
