NC Reckless Driving

What is the name of your state? North Carolina

I was heading back to Charlotte, NC from VA Beach. We just had some fast food and my stomach was upset. I got stuck behind some cars that were going slowly in Greensboro, NC, and I thought I was going to have an accident right in the car. As soon as I got an opportunity I sped around them. As I did this I passed a police officer. I slowed down as I saw him pull out and got over to the right and once he turned his lights on I pulled off to the shoulder.

He said "I pulled you over for doing 97 in a 65."

This was probably correct because I hit the gas really hard to get passed the other vehicles.

Drivers Lice...... Registration...... Bla Bla Bla. I was very polite as was he, but I now have a reckless driving ticket.

My court date is on next Wen.

I called a couple of lawyers and the all told me about the same thing. "We will first ask for a continuance, then ask for a plea on the terms that you have taken a defensive driving class and served one hour of community service for every mile an hour over you were."

I feel like I could do this myself without a lawyer. ?

1.Do you guys/gals think I need a lawyer?
2.If not what will I tell the judge when I ask for the continuance?
3.How do you "sign up" for community service?
4.And after hearing my whole story what should I leave out?

1. Yes.
2. I request a continuance, your Honor.
3. You ask for it at the same time you ask for the continuance.
4. The part about going to the bathroom. If you didn't go while the officer had you pulled over, you had no reason to speed.

Reckless driving is a serious offense and your license will be suspended along with a major increase in your insurance. Hire an attorney even if you have to borrow the money.
