| | | Nj Speeding Ticket Help!!! What is the name of your state? New Jersey
I was pulled over at around 10:30 AM on a Tuesday going 58 in a 40. It wasn't a very busy day (traffic wise). The office asked me how fast I was going. I said I didn't know. He told me 58 and asked for license and reg. He said he'd get me out of here fast since I was going to work.
The officer came back and gave me a ticket for 18 over. No breaks. At that point I realized I had an official PBA card, and politely mentioned it to him. He said it was too late and I should have given it to him earlier (I know I'm dumb). He said the points would get wiped away in court.
About two hours later I realized I couldn't afford those points on my license. I went to the Police Station and spoke with the officer. He said "just go to court, pay the ticket, and you'll be fine". I got a court date coming up on Tuesday. I am leaving for college in NC on Friday so I don't have time to get this postponed. My friends think the way that by the way the officer spoke, he plans to no show. I want to get this done on Tuesday and I don't have time for a lawyer.
There is something where I can pay a 250 surcharge and not get points isn't there? Inattentive driving or something? Someone please help, I really can't get these points and I am willing to pay the fines!
notes: I am 19, no previous violations. I was driving a BMW.
PS - for a first time offender, you think I could get this dropped to a 4-97.2 (i just learned about this)....I know the cops are just fundraising, and the extra 250 should make them happy.. also, if this is possible, How do I plead?

| | | Hello mrzoggs,
From what I see, it is 18 over (4-point) ticket. If you go to court and speak with Public Prosecutor (plea bargain), surely, he may reduce it to 2-point ticket given you have a clean record. But getting it down to 4-97.2 (Unsafe Driving) which has 0 points but 250 bucks fine depends on PP and how he buys your explanation.
If you plead not guilty, a trial date will be given to you and the officer present (if not, you are likely to get the ticket dismissed) during the case.
Hope this helps. |

| | | | "I got a court date coming up on Tuesday". Please go in a little earlier than the time mentioned on the court summons. I guess most of the people do talk to PP. If you have a lawyer to fight your case, you usually go straight into the court room. (Atleast, this was the procedure when I went to court) | |
