outstanding ticket, suspended license


a friend in nys got pulled over for no headlight and then found out he had a suspended license for an outstanding ticket. this is his first offense and he had received no notification of a court date for outstanding ticket or anything from dmv. what will happen and what can he do?

must go to court. First offense is usually just a fine. But it is criminal and will show on his record.

YOUR "FRIEND" did recieve notice his license was suspended.

Your "friend" didnt read it or tossed it away.

Your "friend" didnt show up for a court date which was on the ticket so they suspended his license..DUH DUH DUH!!!!

Only possibility is if your "FRIEND" was living at the exact address that is on his license, he could demand to see if the state has proof of mailing his suspension. Or if they sent it certified mail and who signed for it.

I heard but haven't seen it yet that some states are printing on the BACK of the ticket if you dont show up in court on the date and time specified, then we concider it a defualt and this ticket is your offical notice of suspension.

I guess its a way of saving taxpayers money.

So you see if your "friend" would learn how to read it could save him a lot of trouble in the future.
