PA ticket for 3111-A - Will it affect my insurance? Should I fight it?

What is the name of your state? PA

I got a ticket for running a yellow/red light today. The cop said he gave me a break and that the ticket is just a fine with no points.

I just wanted to make sure that he was telling the truth and that if I pay the fine it won't affect my insurance rates.

The violation is a 3111-A.

Thanks in advance for your assistance with this.

What is the exact name of the citation?

You need to ask your insurance agent. While it is a no point ticket I think it still shows for insurance purposes. The officer gave you a break so you are not likely to have any luck fighting it anyway.

Well he's probably telling the truth, but points have no bearing on insurance rates. Insurance companies have have their own scoring for violations. You need to check your policy or contact the company/agent to find out.

As far as the exact name of the citation, it says the following:

Charge Section & Subsection: 3111-A
Nature of Offense: Fail to obey traffic signals/markings

As far as fighting it goes, I've seen people get off just for showing up to a hearing and the judge was in a good mood. In Philadelphia (where this went down), the officers don't have to show up to the hearing. Instead a single officer acts as a proxy for all officers. Therefore, I could say the light was yellow when I entered the interesection and the judge can either believe it or not.

This is a chargeable violation to insurance companies, so, ask your agent if your insurance company surcharges for it.

Thanks for the info.

I will ask my agent but it seems that I should try and fight no matter what. It couldn't hurt could it?
