When did the law change?

When did the law change? It use to be that if the cop didn't show you were released of the charges. So your considered guilty without proof?

The law didn't change. The officer is not ever required to appear to watch you enter your plea. Though in most jurisdictions, he is required to appear for the actual hearing (the trial).

I see the OP has never been to the Nassau County Traffic and Parking Violations Agency...

You made it sound as if you were asking if the officer is present at your arraignment.

You'll likely deal with a prosecutor first who will offer you a plea. It's your choice whether you take it or not. If not you'll come back again for a trial.
