Question

Please Help! (HomeGuru or IAAL?)

I have been living in Maryland for 3 years and driving with a MD driver's license. In Pennsylvania in 1999, my driving privileges were suspended for 90 days for committing too many moving violations. I believed I had made restitution regarding the suspension when I obtained my MD driver's license, but I was recently stopped in MD and ordered to appear in traffic court in December because my license was suspended in Pennsylvania. Because I never mailed in my PA license, the suspension never started. I acknowledge my mistakes of the past and I have had a clean driving record for three years. I have also just paid the fines for the bench warrant issued in PA. Now I am awaiting trial in MD for driving under a suspended PA license. What penalties should I expect? My income is too great to obtain a Public Defender, but I cannot afford an attorney after paying out several hundred dollars to PA and I am prepared to pay several hundred more to MD. What are my chances of going to jail? What should I say to the judge? Please know that I did not, in good faith, drive on a suspended license. Please help this reformed wreckless driver.

Thank you for the insightful response, HomeGuru. It's evident you put much thought into it and I appreciate all the time you spent pondering my problem.
