point transfer between statesWhat is the name of your state? CO, CA, and PA Hi, I live in 3 different states and am wondering how points transfer between the states. I haven't earned any speeding tickets, but I'm curious how it works across state lines, etc. Do certain states accept points while others don't? If I have a CO license and get a ticket in PA, would it transfer? Likewise, if I decide to switch my residense to CA, would a ticket in CO or PA transfer? This is certainly not the reason for switching residense, but I'm interested in how this works and how various states handle this. Thanks a bunch! Pytch |

| Tickets usually transfer to your state of residence. I say usually because when the government is involved anything can happen. You have to be careful when you plead guilty to an out-of-state ticket. Many people have been told it was a no point violation to suddenly find out that they have four points assessed on their record. This is because of the difference between states on some violations. Since the points are determined by your home state, you need to be sure how the speeding ticket will be reported. Generally you should never just plead guilty to a speeding ticket and send them your money. Traffic school is an option and by pleading not guilty the court will usually reduce the fine/points in order to get a guilty plea. |
