police question

What is the name of your state? California

Question: When the police pull you over and run your driver's license, what actually shows up on their screen? Arrests? Traffic violations? Warrants (I'm pretty sure)? Felony convictions, misdemeanor convictions? What? They never let you know what they're looking at. ANybody out there got any idea? A response would be appreciated. Thanks.

Not really. The main things when a person is run is to see if the person has any active warrants and any info on the vehicle (IE stolen)

The information on the MDT (Mobile Display Terminal) contains:
1) Individual screen:
The information shown on an individual depends on what that agency wants to show (depends on the program and database information available).
This could include prior records, driving record, etc., but as a minimum it will contain:
- Drivers license information (name, DOB, number, description)
- Whether there are any outstanding wants or warrants on that individual (use to be called 10-28/10-29 in the pre-MDT days).
2) Vehicle screen:
This screen will show:
- registration information on the vehicle (VIN, description, owners name, address, prior owner, etc.)
- Any outstandings on the vehicle (stolen, etc.). This will also include anything where that plate was reported.. like fleeing, suspicious activity, etc.

A few years ago a Puyallup, Washington police officer was fired after he was caught looking at porn on the screen in his patrol car.

Racer said, "A few years ago a Puyallup, Washington police officer was fired after he was caught looking at porn on the screen in his patrol car."

Ah, come on, Racer. We expected better of you!!
The officers MDT is connected directly to the department communications via encrypted radio. It can ONLY receive the data that it is authorized (and screen set) to receive. There is simply no way that the MDT can receive the Internet..... or even run a browser program. And therefore, no way that porn can be received by the MDT, or shown on the MDT screen.

Maybe you got confused about an officer using his own PERSONAL computer to view content. This could be done by having a wireless connection (802.11) and sitting outside a location with Wi-Fi capability (like a lot of Starbucks, etc. are offering). But, that wouldn't be his MDT..... and might not even be actionable.
