police stop procedures

What is the name of your state? Utah
Would like to know what the procedures are for a standard stop from the time the officer stops you until the time the stop is considered complete. and if there are any possible variations based on the circumstances. are there any standardized procedures.

Well usually they call to dispatch your plate, type and color of your car, and the location of the stop so if you shoot him/her they know where to send help.

Walk up to driver or passenger side of car, tell you what you did, a lot of times in a nice sarcastic way, ask for license and proof of insurance.

Walk back, run your name through LEIN to see if you have any Warrants or anything.

Then pop out the old ticket book, write you a ticket, walk back with the ticket, give you court instructions, tell you to slow down or stop whatever else you're doing and you're off.

Sure it varies amongst officers, but thats pretty much it.

Different variations? Just say what you did and how the officer reacted.

Keep in mind the that the officer can run your liscense plate before he/she stops you and get information on the RO like if they're suspended, have any warrants, etc. In that case, the actions may be different.

Even if the officer did something different than his training, it does not absolve you of the violation. The officer doing something out of the ordinary is not likely to be a defense.
