What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New Jersey

I received a careless driving ticket on 12/2/08, which I plan on going to court and pleading down to Operating a motor vehicle in an unsafe manner (NJSA 39:4-97.2). The current court date is 12/23/08. My question is, since I have already pleaded down to this once back on 4/24/04, would it be possible to postpone my court date past 4/24/09, and would that get me past the 5 year time period for this to be a first offense, or are they going to base it on the date I was given the original careless driving ticket. Thanks in advance for any advice. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
