What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? TEXAS

Do I understand correctly, to fulfill your "Promise To Appear" on a traffic ticket, you can just mail the court a letter with something like this:

"NOW COMES, (name), the Defendant, and enters an appearance in the above numbered cause. Defendant hereby enters a plea of NOT GUILTY and request a jury trial."

....without actually appearing in person?? Thank you!
