Question about cops ability.

What is the name of your state? Kentucky.

Can a cop speed for no reason without his lights/sirens on in Kentucky? Or do they have to follow the speed limit too, just like everyone else?

You gonna try turning an officer in for speeding? Good luck with that.

*sigh* My biggest concern here is that Cepe is going to show up here...

Well maybe he can give me a simple yes or a no, or a depends and helps me out. And no, I'm not trying to turn a cop in for speeding.

You be polite and forthcoming with us, and we will be with you. You be snotty and devious, don't expect much in return.

This is the section you're probably looking for:

I'm not going to research it for KY as silly questions are not worth my time. But, I'll bet the answer is:

1. By statute, no. There is probably a law saying what is required for an emergency vehicle to not have certain laws apply (like speeding). In CA, they must have a solid red light in the front of the vehicle lit.

2. By case law, yes. The question comes up time and time again. The court sighs and says that there are many legitimate police enforcement functions which can only be performed by the vehicle speeding without the statutory requirement.

Since the courts interpret the law, the answer is yes they can.
