Recived Tickets in IL. but live in moWhat is the name of your state?Missouri I was at a family reunion and reviced 3 tickets. 1-Speeding 40 in a 25 2-No proof of insurance 3-Not wearing a seat belt I was wondering what i should do cuz Ive recived tickets in il before but i wanna know what would be the best way to fight it. I think i am currently on court supervision cuz i had to take care of some other tickets before I recived these tickets. But i think that I was placed on court supervision after i recived these 3 tickets cuz i was still going through the process of taking care of the other ones when i recived these tickets. But, i just recived the letter stating I am on court supervision so i was prolly placed on it after these tickets where written. Also my gf got a ticket too for not wearing a seat belt but she didnt have a licsence on her so the officer made her right down her info and she recived a 55.00 ticket for that. i was wondering if i could just pay it and it not show on her liscense or what. Thanks for your help. |

You will want to minimize your travel to IL just to take care of a citation. Let the experts do it for you. My comments: Read my “Caution!” thread before you read any other responses. 1. 40/25 is no big deal and likely within the 85th percentile. It may even be likely that the limit itself is illegal. Obtain a copy of MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) and an engineering survey of the instant roadway where you were and do the math. 2. Proof of insurance can be presented to the court and this charge will be dismissed. I suggest that you keep ALL of the administrative documents/matters in good order. This includes your license, registration, proof of insurance, and other required inspections and/or licenses. Keep them together on your driver-side visor. Don’t give the cop reason to expand his examination of you and your vehicle. 3. No excuse for not wearing a seatbelt. My rule: Everybody wears them all of the time. Don’t give the cop a reason to stop you and/or expand his examination of you and your vehicle. Good luck and keep us informed. |

Sure ... let's have guys zipping down residential streets that fast! That's just great ... let's change our total stopping distance from approximately 85 feet to approximately 164 feet on a street where children play along the curb, cars exit driveways, and people might pop out carrying trash to the curb. I don't know how it is where you are, but out here the 25 MPH streets tend to be the residential neighborhoods. And doubling the stopping distance for no reason does not seem like "no big deal" to me - especially when it might be my kids on that 25 MPH street. So, while it may not be within the engineered percentile, it will still likely be a lawful limit and citable ... though not being familiar with MO law, nor knowing the exact statute the driver was cited for, that would be impossible to say. Out here he would likely be cited for Unsafe Speed per CVC 22350 (as that is the section used for violations of prima facie limits). - Carl
