Reckless drving in VA

What is the name of your state? NC

I was on my way home from Maryland, and received a ticket for Reckless driving. I was going 81/65. I did not realize how fast I was going. My court date is the first week of August. What would the best course of action be. Pay the high price for a lawyer, or talk to the prosecutor before court. I have a copy of my NC driving record, which is squeaky clean.

HELP!!!

If you appear in court they will normally reduce the violation to a simple speeding ticket. North Carolina does not assess points for out of state tickets but it may show for insurance points.

Read the other threads, many are similar to yours. Since I've already read them, I can tell you that most people, in this case, would say to not get a lawyer (don't waste your money), talk to the prosecutor and either plea bargain or plead nolo. You will very likely (I'm guessing 99% in your case) get it reduced to speeding without the reckless charge, which is much better for your insurance. They may make you take a class to get it reduced.

I just read on some website about this law we have in Virginia, which states that although reckless driving is 20 over, if you're going above 80 then it's reckless driving no matter what the speed limit is. Seems pretty weird to me. "Crazy 80 law." I actually feel like I lucked out with my 79 in a 65 ticket. Sorry you didn't have the same luck, but it should only cost you a trip to the courthouse.
