Yes, you need to speak with a lawyer. Do a search here on VA to see why go to Virginia Speeding Ticket help

Soligirl,

From what I hear, the judges in Fairfax (as well as appomattox) are pretty rough. I would definitely recommend that you find a local attorney. Ask around, if any of your friends have had similar driving cases before, see who represented them in court and if they were good.

I just got a lawyer today myself (I was also pulled over for reckless driving in virginia), I'm definitely glad that I did. And the fees were less than what I expected, at $300. You just have to find the right one.

The 300-600 dollars you can expect to pay for a lawyer far outweigh the negative aspects of being convicted of a class one misdemeanor - reckless driving is a criminal offense, in the same class as a DUI. You don't want this on your record.

Since you have a clean record so far (like I did before my reckless), if you take this seriously and get a lawyer you may have a shot at having the charge reduced - especially if you can get the judge to assign you driving school as part of the sentence.

Did the officer seem nice? Were you polite to eachother? If everything was rosey, the lawyer may have a shot at striking a bargain with the officer before it even goes to court, and the judges will always respect this.

Good luck!
