Registration SNAFU

What is the name of your state? California

About two months ago I sold my pickup truck to a private party. The same day, I mailed a 'release of liability' form to the DMV.

A few days ago I received a letter from a Toll Road authority in Orange County informing me that the truck had been driven on a toll road without paying the toll. The DMV identified me as the registered owner.

I cannot find the copy I made of the release of liability. The DMV database does not contain a record of my release of liability. How do I get out from under the liability for anything connected with the vehicle???

Go talk to DMV. I'm sure they have a form for this situation. I don't know if you can get out of the toll problem.

I should have mentioned that I have spoken with the DMV. The only form they have is the standard release of liability, which requires the buyer's name and address. Since I lost my copy of the original release, I no longer have any information on the buyer.

I freely admit that losing my copy of the release was boneheaded - the DMV says I'm out of luck.
