Speed Checkpoint problem -MN What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Minnesota
Last night I was in an unfamiliar neighborhood and one of the streets had a speed checkpoint that displays your current speed and such. The speed limit is 30 mph in that area and I was driving that on the nose. Even the display on the checkpoint confirmed that initially on approach and getting closer to it, showed that I was staying within a 29-31 mph range. Suddenly the camera, or whatever, flashed and the speed displayed changed to 41. Now my car is pretty good, but it can't gain 11 mph in less than a second. It quickly went back to displaying my actual speed, which I eventually dropped to 25 mph because I was confused about what was going on, but before I finally passed it, it flashed 41 mph again. I was the only car on the road, so it had to be me setting it off.
Now I don't know if I'll get a ticket or not, but I'm dreading it because it would be my first ticket ever and because I wasn't actually speeding. I'm thinking of contacting the city that it was in to complain about it and find out if I was actually issued anything, but I have a feeling they won't believe me ("yeah, suuuuuure it was malfunctioning, uh huh" is the response I'm dreading). Other than preemptively contacting them, what other options do I have for fighting this (possible) ticket? I'm even tempted to take a video camera down there to record and calculate how much the radar or whatever is off by, but that might not work because it was right some of the time for me. Any suggestions? Or am I just being paranoid? |
