Question

Speed Trap - PA - ticket

What is the name of your state? PA

On Tuesday I was headed to work. Right around the corner form my house I saw 3 cars to the side of the road. I thought wow what a fender bender, must have just happened. So being the gawker that I am I rolled down the hill & then back up (slowly from what I thought) & an officer stepped out from between the cars, pointed to me & then to side of road. I thought this is early for a sobriety test but I had nothing to worry about (drinking before 8am never really appealed to me), then I thought well maybe considering the area it bordered they where doing registration & insurance checks. Well when the officer came to the car he said I was going 41 (zone is 25) & he needed my license. I obliged but when he walked to back of car it hit me what happened & that I was getting a ticket. Being a woman & at a hormonal state I started to cry (not thetrical just really upset since I pride myself on not getting any tickets or driving violations). I called my husband to let him know what just happened & how I thought I was definately not doing 25 down the hill but no way 41. So I hung up with hubby & officer was very polite & said please don;t get so upset, just go to the court because he did not have some type of authority to issue points but most likely I would have to pay 157 ticket & no points would be added (He may have said more detail in his staement but I was so upset by then I just wanted to go home, which was 1 street down). So i asked to make a U-Turn in street to go back home. He asked if I needed to call anyone, I said no i just wanted to go home.

Long story longer, what will going to court do for me? Ticket has my name & all information correct. Only thing I am stumped on is under speeding for the check boxes there it has Radar, Clocked, AOV, ESP, Vascar & Other. Other was marked. It has a speed timing device operator name, Spped equip serial # but I am not sure what they used to get my speed if the other box is checked. It also has miles time 0.038 & sec timed 3.32.

So if it has all this information & the officer told me to go to court how would I jut have to pay fine? Can anyone give me more information on speeding laws & traps in PA. I really don;t mind paying the fine (even if I don;t have the money) but i just do not want the points or my insurance to go up.

Thank you

Look here for my reply in another thread for my experience in PA with speeding tickets:

I suspect this was a local officer, since most of the state guys use radar (although they can use any of the devices approved in PA) but I am curious, where was it?

Also you didn't mention if #56 Speed Equip. Tested (that is the station that calibrated the device) and #57 Date Equip. Tested was filled out. These numbers are from a ticket that is a few months old but I don't think the form has been changed recently.

If you are serious about pleading not giuilty and fighting this ticket, let me know.

Local officer
Location was in Norristown just across the street from Plymouth Meeting
#56 states W-29 (I think that is what it looks like) & #57 has date of 6-23-05

Yes serious about fighting it. Or even just to get no points would be fine with me. It was an odd trap since all the cars that got pulled over when I was there where new ones. Maybe they did older cars earlier or later.

I know everything on the ticket does not have to be exact but in #42 a time was never recorded. Does that even make a difference?

ok...first step is to plead not guilty.

Tear off bottom of ticket and check not guilty. You have to enclose the face amount of ticket plus $6 (as I recall). I believe you have 10 days to do this so no need to rush (use the time for research) just so it gets there within time allowed. Make copies of everything (esp. the bottom of the ticket front and back). Also remit certified mail, return receipt.

IMHO the missing time is irrelevant.

I will send more tomorrow. I am on my way out right now.

Was out longer than planned. If you're still planning to fight your ticket and want more info it would be easier to send it via email.

Also, I got my start fighting tickets at www.BeatMySpeedingTicket.com
