Speeding and JailI live in Alabama and have gotten several speeding tickets as a result of speed traps. I am wanting to keep this ticket of my record for fear that my insurance rates will go up. I am also fed up with the speed traps and feel the cops should focus on other more important things. I am a good driver and was not creating a dangerous situation for myself or anyone else. I was driving 47 MPH in a 35 MPH zone on a 4-lane road with almost no traffic. During a normal day when there is more traffic, everyone drives at 35 MPH. This is the second time I got a ticket in this spot. To save money and to protest the speed trap, I am wondering if I can go to court, plead guilty and request a Jail sentence rather than points and a fine. I do know that up to 10 days in Jail is an option according to the written law. I would much rather spend a little time in Jail than pay them any money. Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks, Frustrated in Alabama |

| You cannot go to jail over a simple traffic ticket. You admit to breaking the law, you present no evidence for any leniency. It is people like you why cops set up speed traps. Drive the speed limit and they will leave you alone. Simple solution to a simple problem. |

| Racer is correct that you normally are not DIRECTLY sentenced to jail time for a traffic ticket. However, it can be done by getting your 'fine' and then going to jail to work off the fine at some daily rate (depending on your location). But, the conviction will still go on your traffic record.

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport! |

| How can that be a speed trap? You were busted there on two occasions. One would think you would have learned the first time. As for being a good driver, how can you say your a good driver when you stated you keep getting busted by the "speed traps". Going 12 mph over the speed limit is not a good driver. Your comment "Police should be focusing on more important things" typical comment from someone being caught speeding. My advice, do the speed limit and you won't have to worry about the so called "speed traps". |
