speeding in NY What is the name of your state?I was driving on I87 to canada in New York. In the region I was driving the highway was 2 lanes and the average speed in the right lane was 80-85+, with the left lane devoid of cars except for passing.
Some drivers have a bad habit of tailing other cars, which I hate and consider extremely dangerous. As it happens a driver approached and started tailing me 1 1/2 car lengths behind. I decided to pass the car in front of me to get him off of my tail.
As I was passing I happened to pass a radar trap. Was metered at 93 in a 65 m/hr zone. I may or may not have been going that fast in order to pass, don't know.
My license is in NJ. The location of the ticket is 250mi from where I live. I have no points accrued on my license. Question is whether it is worth getting representation for the charge (1180 sub 1) to get a reduced violation. Does this commute to points in NJ? And is it possible that it could result in suspension (is it up to judges discretion)?
The ticket has written on the bottom "A plea of guilty to this charge is equivalent to a conviction after trial. If you are convicted, not only will you be liable for penalty, but in addition your license to drive a motor vehicle ... and your certificate of registration if any, are subject to suspension and revocation as prescribed by law".
Please advise. Thanks |
