Recently my Daughter was caught in a speed trap on the PA Turnpike in Lancaster. The ticket has "A.O.V." checked as the method of timing. The cop indicated that there was a plane. Does anyone know more details of the timing method for this (e.g. what does AOV stand for)? I thought planes were "Vascar" but this isn't checked. Also any suggestions for fighting this one - even if we can knock the speed down it would be a great help. Thanks for any help out there.

A.O.V. = Aerial Observation Vehicle. Fancy name for an airplane.

They use the same method as VASCAR, but are not necessarily a VASCAR system. Generally they measure your elapsed travel time between two set points on the roadway with a known distance (ever wonder what those white lines painted across the highway were for???) and calculate your feet/second which is translated into miles/hour.
