Speeding Ticket

What is the name of your state? Louisiana

It was around 11PM and I was coming back home from work. The police pulled me over saying I was doing 71MPH on a 55MPH. I was not doing 71 MPH for sure.

I was on the right lane on the Causeway Bridge and a pick-up, SUV Vehicle was getting really close to me from behind (tailgating), the lights of the truck reflecting on my mirrors were making my driving uncomfortable beside the distance between the truck and my small car. Then I decided to change to the left lane and let the truck go, I did this while approaching the last crossover, where the police was, on my left. Next thing he pulled me over saying I was doing 71 MPH.

This is my theory:

1st The radar clocked me diagonal
2.- Because it clocked me diagonal while I was changing lanes I was approaching faster to the radar so it clocked 71MPH

or
1.- The radar clocked both diagonal
2.- The truck was doing 71MPH or
3.- The radar confused it self getting the bounce signal from 2 vehicles moving.

Am I right? What are my chances to dismiss the charges? Any comments will be appreciated.

1. No. Doppler radar does not care if an object is moving sideways, diagonal or jumping up and down waving a flag.

2. Slim to none.

Speeding Ticket

I was doing 65, this is generally accpeted on this bridge even though I know this is not a valid excuse or else. Maybe he believed I was drunk as I changed lanes in front of him trying to get away from the truck...I do not know....

One more question, Let's prepare for the worst and say the court does not believe my story, but it is TRUE, Louisiana laws says I may take a driver's improvement course if I have not taken any course under this article. I took one FL under FLorida's Laws. Can I still take this path as this is Louisiana and not FL?. Any comments will be appreciated.

Call the clerk of court and ask if you can take traffic school and keep the ticket off your record. Most jurisdictions are only interested in your money.
