Speeding ticketWhat is the name of your state? Missouri I recieved a speeding ticket while visiting family in Missouri. I could not locate my ticket once I was back in Arizona. I am a Florida resident stationed in Phoenix. Also, my last name was miss spelled and my address is also incorrect. My family has sent me the ticket...that should have been paid last month. Should I now send the ticket and fee. I also looked up the ticket online...my info is still incorrect. And shows an NRVC notice issued. What is the best way to handle this. Thanks |

| Pay the ticket. None of the incorrect info prevented you from presenting a valid defense to the court plus it is probably too late. And the NRVC is the Non Resident Violators Compact. This means the ticket info was provided to the state that issued your license. And if Missouri suspended your driving priveliges, they are suspended in your home state. Get pulled over now and you will be looking at a driving on suspended ticket, possibly having your vehicle impounded, and pay a lot more that your current ticket. Blowing off out of state tickets is a thing of the past, the long arm of the law can touch you cross country for the most minor of offenses now days.

You should certainly contact the court in Missouri to ascertain the exact status of the citation. And if Missouri suspended your driving priveliges, they are suspended in your home state. Holding a driver’s license is not a privelige; it’s not even a privilege. It is an entitlement that SCOTUS defines as an amalgam of privilege and right. It elevates above mere privilege because, once obtained, it cannot be rescinded by the state without due process. As a matter of practicality, many states do abuse drivers by rescinding their licenses for the smallest of matters. Get pulled over now and you will be looking at a driving on suspended ticket, possibly having your vehicle impounded, and pay a lot more that your current ticket. Agreed. This is a housekeeping matter that should be taken care of today. Drivers should always keep their license updated and in their possession; they should keep their insurance updated and proof in their vehicle; they should keep their license plates current and properly displayed; they should resolve any questions – such as the above situation, wants and warrants – before they even go out on the streets. They should keep their seatbelts fastened and avoid any excuse for the LEOs to stop them. Now, to the ticket. Mandilyn, when you call the court, how do they identify your citation? By number? By your correct name? By your incorrect name? By your DL number? If it is by your incorrect name, how would the state know how to report whom as the recalcitrant motorist? |
