| Speeding Ticket I am a 16 year old in Hawaii. I have had my license for 7 months. I have no previous traffic violations or anything like that. I was driving up a hill at 11PM at night with no other cars around, when an officer pulled out of the dark and turned his sirens on. I pulled over, and he said I was doing 55 in a 35 MPH zone. He offered to show me the laser gun, but I declined. I signed the ticket, and am set for a court date, or I can mail in the check. It is a 157$ fine, 100$ for 20 miles over (5 per mile) and 57$ for court fee. I am wondering why I have to pay the court fee? He did not fill in the spot that said I had to go to court. I am allowed to mail it in with my parents signature. Why am I paying the fee if I am not going to court? If I have to pay the fee, I might as well go. I am under the impression that if the officer doesn't show up, then the charges are dropped?
Thank You Very Much. |
