What is the name of your state? Hawaii
I received a speeding ticket in October of 2003. I didn't have my isurance form with me but I had insurance at the time. The Officer said he was going to site me for both the speeding and the insurance but I can just fax in the copy of the insurance form to have it dropped. So I faxed in the insurance paper and sent in a check for the speeding. I know he said I had to show up to court but I thought it was only because I didn't have the insurance on me. 5 years ago I didn't really worry too much about these things even though I should have, I figured that since I did what I thought I was suppose to to take care of the situation and no one said anything then it was taken care of. Well, its 5 years later and I'm trying to renew my clearance for the military and during the course of the investigation they see that my speeding ticket from 5 years ago wasn't taken care of and there's a bench warrant for my arrest. I went and paid the bail of 250 and have a court date on the 19th. But the thing that gets me is that when I went to try and get a hawaii drivers license the DMV told me I had to take care of some traffic violation fines from my past before I can even take the permit test. I went and took care of them and they told me I was cleared. I got my permit and eventually got my license. What gets me is that they told me to pay all those fines and penalties but never told me about this one, and they allowed me to get my license. I can't prove that I had insurance back then either because I don't remember the insurance company that I was under, it was some hole in the wall place that I got just to be insured and insured really cheap. Am I screwed or is there some kind of good faith defense I can bring up during my trial. Somebody please help me, my clearance depends on this case turning out in my favor.
