What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois
I had a family emergency and was given a ticket for doing a 107mph in a 55mph zone from what the officer said. I was speeding because of the situation and there was no traffic for about a mile on the expressway. I have a court date, but need advice on what I should do. I did have one other ticket last year for speeding that I just paid for traffic school. I was not speeding but paid it anyway on the advice of the court clerk. Aside from these two tickets I have not had any tickets for 4 or 5 years.Thank you

Define "family emergency"?

If the officer considered your emergency to be so earth-shakingly valid, they probably would have escorted you to wherever you were going to make sure that you got there safely. (It's rare, but it happens.) However, one person's definition of "emergency" is not often always something the police officer believes is so urgent as to warrant not issuing a speeding ticket because of it. That's probably what happened in this case.

Truth be told, you WERE speeding. You did it, you admit you did it. If speeding so carelessly to the destination where your family emergency was worth it, so should it be to pay the ticket you earned because of it.
