Speeding Ticket/Citation never given

What is the name of your state? North Carolina

Back in August I was pulled for speeding (which I was doing) ...
The officer pulled me, told me what he got me for, took my license and registration, came back, talked to me for a minute or two, told me that the court systems should help me out some, and then he pulled off and left. he not only didnt give me the citation but he didnt even show it to me or point out the dates like they usually do. About a month later someone called my house and talked to my other and it appeared that the ticket was on file.
IS there anyway to fight this using the fact that he didnt show me the ticket. I was just wondering what obligations an officer had when writing a ticket to you.
Thanks

go to the clerks office...

and ask to speak with same. In Georgia it is mandatory that an offender signs the ticket, this acknowledges that he understood what he was being charged with. Otherwise the officer will ( is supposed to ) arrest the subject and make him post bond for the ticket. That case to me sounds a bit shady, you need to talk with the clerk of the court where you believe the citation was issued, you can't be tried for any offense and not be present unless you had an attorney speak on your behalf.
