Speeding Ticket in MA

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? MA

Today I was pulled over as 84 in a 65mph zone. Two other cars were pulled over as well. The ticket states that the 84 mph was a visual estimation. I am positive I was not going 84, but I realize that I must have been going 75 or so. I was trying to follow traffic and the guy behind me was starting to tailgate (he might have gotten pulled over too, I'm not sure). This is the first time I have ever gotten a ticket, in approx. 3 years of driving. ...if I appeal it, do I have a chance at anything? What exactly am I supposed to do, if I do appeal it? If I just shut up and paid the fine, how much does this affect my insurance? Is it a dramatic increase? I just need information... Thank you to anyone that gives input.

If you are a young man -- under 25 I think -- this will certainly affect your insurance adversely. I suggest you document the circumstances well and contest the ticket. This is your right. If you arn't successful the first time you are allowed to request another hearing. You don't need a lawyer but you do need to be on top your rights and obligations so make sure you understand the way the system works. m

I found few links that were informative. The second one is more specific on how much the ticket can run you.

Info. from above link.
8. A "serious traffic violation" includes excessive speed as determined by the U.S. Department of Transportation (exceeding the speed limit by 15 or more MPH), operating a motor vehicle as to endanger or reckless driving. Ch. 90F, §1

**You can always fight it. Get the speed reduced possibly.

Info. found at: http://www.autoinsurancelaw.com/mas...urance-law.html

Under Massachusetts auto insurance law, you will not incur any surcharge points for your first minor motor vehicle violation (such as speeding), but you will not earn a credit point for that year.

Good Luck.
