What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Massachusetts

I got a speeding ticket on sunday morning. The officer told me I was driving 53 over 35 although. The officer reduced the charges as if I'm driving 45 over 35 and indicate this on the ticket. If not because of the reduced charges, according to the officer, I'll have to pay close to $200. This is my first speeding ticket since I have my license 10 years ago and considering if I should ask for a hearing asking to be forgiven. But I'm not sure if giving forgiveness is common in MA (and therefore I'm wasting my time), especially knowing that I was driving 53 over 35. Trying to calculate the cost & benefit of going to a hearing. I'm working and therefore have to take days off for a court hearing.

Anyone care to share their comment/experience?

TIA
